50+ Citations Issued in New Jersey

Over 50 Citations Issued to Cannabis Businesses in New Jersey

Between January 2020 to April 2022, the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission issued 54 citations to seven cannabis companies. The allegations included failing to register patients in the medical cannabis registry, security violations, and mold.

According to Ganjapeneur, “Some of the companies that received the citations – including Verano Holdings Corp., Curaleaf Holdings Inc., and Ascend Wellness Holdings Inc. – still received approval to open retail dispensaries in the state.”

The commission has said that it’s not trying to slow down the rollout of the legal cannabis industry but is instead trying to ensure that only licensed businesses are operating in the state. It’s unclear what will happen to the businesses that have been cited, but it’s possible that they could face fines or even have their licenses revoked.

The company Verano, a cannabis producer, told Bloomberg that it was “required to follow an unmatched level of regulation and compliance” and had resolved any violations cited by New Jersey regulators. A spokeswoman for the company said that they were continuing to review their procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
