As mentioned in an article by Best Colleges, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced $5 million in funding for cannabis credential programs for community colleges in the City University of New York (CUNY) and State University of New York (SUNY) systems.
Starting this fall, SUNY Cobleskill in New York will offer a seven-credit cannabis science minor focusing on the plant’s production process, management, and cultivation. The new program was created in response to the growing demand for knowledgeable professionals in the cannabis industry. It will cover topics such as plant biology, chemistry, and horticulture, as well as regulatory compliance and business practices.
The minor was developed with input from industry experts, and students who complete it will be well-prepared for careers in areas such as cultivation, extraction, and product development. They will also have the knowledge necessary to work in other sectors of the cannabis market such as marketing, sales, and law.
