Connecticut Opens First Adult-Use Marijuana Shops

According to a report by Marijuana Moment, recreational marijuana sales began in Connecticut, the latest state in the region.

The state’s Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) told medical marijuana dispensaries with hybrid licenses that they could sell to adults.

Last month, DCP’s Social Equity Council granted hybrid licenses to all medical cannabis producers for both markets. Six marijuana businesses with a total of nine locations have met the requirements to get hybrid licenses to sell to adults. However, not all of them are ready to start recreational sales as of Tuesday.

Adults can buy one-fourth of an ounce of cannabis flower or its equivalent per transaction. Monthly medical marijuana purchases are limited to five ounces.

In a press release, Gov. Ned Lamont (D), who signed the legalization legislation into law, said, “Today marks a turning point in the injustices caused by the war on drugs, most notably now that there is a legal alternative to the dangerous, unregulated, underground market for cannabis sales.”

“Together with our partners in the legislature and our team of professionals at the Department of Consumer Protection, we’ve carefully crafted a securely regulated market that prioritizes public health, public safety, social justice, and equity,” he stated “I look forward to continuing our efforts to ensure that this industry remains inclusive and safe as it develops.”

As of last week, these are the marijuana dispensaries that can legally sell to adults over the age of 21.
