Chicago Cubs Are the First Major League Baseball Team to Partner with a CBD Brand

Front Office Sports says that the Chicago Cubs are likely to be the first MLB team to have a CBD sponsor and sell CBD drinks at their stadium. The relationship is between the Cubs and MYND Drinks, which is based in Chicago, Illinois. MYND Drinks has the NSF Certified for Sport designation, which is needed to work with MLB teams.

In June 2022, MLB agreed to a plan that would let teams work with CBD brands. In October, the league made Charlotte’s Web the “Official CBD of Major League Baseball.”

As part of their marketing campaign, the Cubs released “A Wrigley Field Guided Meditation” last week. The play-by-play voice for the team, Pat Hughes, reads the script. The video’s description on YouTube says that it is meant to “help Cubs fans unwind.” The movie shows pictures of Wrigley Field, where the Cubs play, and the famous ivy that grows on the outfield walls.

When the league said that teams could work with CBD brands, MLB Chief Revenue Officer Noah Garden said that MLB fans are “very much the kind of customers” CBD brands are “looking for.”

CBD is allowed under federal law, and several athletes have been sponsored by CBD brands, including golfer Bubba Watson, former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski, U.S. Women’s National Team star Megan Rapinoe, and the Richard Childress NASCAR team.
