In a recent announcement, the Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) in California has mandated recalls for two cannabis products over health and safety concerns, prompting consumers to check for specific batch numbers and take appropriate action.
Recall 1: Urban Therapies Distribution’s Gelato Orangeade
The first recall targets Urban Therapies Distribution, LLC, specifically their Gelato Orangeade hybrid cannabis flower. Initiated on January 10, 2024, the recall was prompted by the identification of Aspergillus flavus, a potentially harmful mold, in batch GF-271 manufactured on July 12, 2023. Consumers are urged to check their product’s UID and batch number, disposing of or returning the product if they match the recalled batch.
Ganjapreneur has sought comments from Urban Therapies Distribution regarding the recall.
Recall 2: Echsen Industries’ Fog City Farms Shark Bites Infused Pre-rolls
The second recall, voluntarily undertaken by Echsen Industries, LLC, involves their Fog City Farms Shark Bites infused pre-rolls. Issued on the same day, the recall is due to the presence of the pesticides Spiromesifen, Cadusafos, and Cyphenothrin, posing potential health risks. Batch 0628301, manufactured on June 28, 2023, and sold after July 17, 2023, is subject to recall. Consumers are advised to check UID and batch numbers, disposing of or returning the product if they match the recalled batch. Those experiencing adverse effects are encouraged to consult a physician.
Fog City Farms responded on Instagram, asserting that they never used chemical pesticides and attributing the contamination to a third-party manufacturing facility. They emphasized the incident’s isolation to one batch of Pacific Chem prerolls, manufactured in June of the previous year, with supporting clean test results for the provided flower.
