RI Legalizes Adult-Use Cannabis

Rhode Island Launches Sales of Cannabis for Adult Use

According to WJAR, lines formed outside of licensed shops in Rhode Island in preparation of the 1st December commencement of sales of cannabis for adults.

Five of the state’s six medical cannabis “compassion centers” were granted hybrid retail licenses, allowing them to begin selling to adults, and the sales push began a little over a week later.

The state gave five licensed marijuana compassion centers the go-ahead to sell recreational marijuana to people over 21.

These were the areas:

  • Aura of Rhode Island in Central Falls.
  • Thomas C. Slater Center in Providence.
  • Mother Earth Wellness in Pawtucket.
  • Greenleaf Compassionate Care Center in Portsmouth.
  • RISE Warwick in Warwick

In a recent report from Ganjapreneur, Matt Santacroce, who is in charge of regulating cannabis in the state, said that his office is going to hire new people and triple the number of people who can inspect cannabis.

When lawmakers passed the state’s legalization bill earlier this year, Rhode Island became the 19th U.S. state to make major changes to cannabis laws. Adults over the age of 21 can buy and have up to an ounce of cannabis, keep up to 10 ounces at home for personal use, and grow up to six cannabis plants at home (three mature and three immature).
