In the days leading up to April 20 — widely recognized as 4/20 — cannabis sales in Ohio spiked by $3 million, according to the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control (DCC). Dispensaries throughout the state brought in more than $20 million in total sales from April 13–19, MITechNews reports.
This marks Ohio’s first 4/20 celebration since launching adult-use cannabis sales in August 2024. Adrienne Robbins, deputy executive director of the Ohio Cannabis Coalition (OHCANN), called the sales “really impressive,” noting they make the organization “very hopeful for the future as well.”
“Years ago we probably didn’t know if we were going to reach this day or not,” Robbins said. “As far as sales go for the industry, this has been a high sale weekend for them.”
In the six weeks prior to April 20, Ohio dispensaries averaged over 260,000 weekly transactions. As of April 21, the state is home to 140 dispensaries selling both medical and adult-use products.
Since launching its adult-use program, Ohio has seen about $2.6 billion in total cannabis sales — $2.1 billion from adult-use and $466 million from the medical program, according to DCC data.
