New York’s First Licensed Cannabis Shop Opens

CBS New York reported, the first legally operating cannabis store in New York will welcome its first customers.

New York City’s East Village is home to Housing Works, a nonprofit social service organization. Besides selling cannabis for adults, the company will keep providing free services to the homeless, formerly jailed, and those involved in the criminal justice system.

“The opening of the first legal dispensary in our state right here in New York City is more than just a promising step for this budding industry — it represents a new chapter for those most harmed by the failed policies of the past,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams remarked on the occasion of the opening was reported in Ganjapreneur.

Florist Farms, which has been farming organic vegetables for 12 years, is one of the 100 products that Housing Works Cannabis Company sells under its six various brand names.

Karli Miller-Hornick, CEO and co-founder, stated, “we start with that. Healthy, happy plants, organic fertilizers, no pesticides, and we’re all about regenerating our landscape.”

According to CBS, Housing Works may be the first to open but certainly not the last. The state says the new year will bring several new dispensaries. In fact, 36 adult retail licenses have been issued.

Looking ahead, cannabis delivery has also been approved, and the state expects to start issuing those licenses in the next month.
