Minnesota Unveils $2 Million Grant Program to Support Local Growers and Industry Equity

The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) announced the launch of a $2 million grant program designed to help farmers and organizations provide training, education, and financing to those navigating the state’s expanding industry.

The CanGrow farmer loan and training grants aim to equip farmers with the resources and tools needed to enter or grow their presence within Minnesota’s regulated market. “Providing farmers the financial opportunity to take part in Minnesota’s cannabis market and make strategic investments is the best way to ensure they can build equity,” said OCM Interim Director Eric Taubel in a press release.

Grants will range in funding:

  • $10,000–$50,000 for technical assistance and educational projects
  • $200,000–$500,000 for organizations offering loan financing
  • $2,500–$50,000 for individual farmers, or up to $150,000 for projects with matching funds

Eligible applicants include nonprofits, educational institutions, local governments, private businesses, community groups, and other partnerships. However, only nonprofit organizations are eligible for the farmer loan grants.

Jess Jackson, OCM’s director of social equity, emphasized the importance of the program: “CanGrow helps to increase access to ownership by ensuring underserved farmers get a fair opportunity at entering the cannabis market.”

The program underscores Minnesota’s commitment to building an inclusive and equitable industry by addressing financial barriers for new and existing growers.
