Connecticut’s cannabis flower prices have hit an all-time low this year, dropping to $10.86 per gram, according to the latest data from the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP). While this isn’t the lowest price seen since the launch of adult-use sales in the state, it marks a notable decrease following a period of price fluctuations throughout 2023 and 2024. From April to October 2023, the per gram price briefly dipped below $10.00 before rising to over $11.00 from November 2023 to January 2024, and then surpassing $12.00 between February and July of this year. Despite this recent drop, flower prices have hovered over $11.00 throughout the summer months.
This drop in price comes as adult-use cannabis sales in Connecticut continue to rise. August saw a record high of nearly $18 million in sales, but numbers have since fallen slightly, reaching $17.3 million in October and $17.6 million in November. The rise in adult-use sales is a significant shift from the earlier days of Connecticut’s legal market when medical cannabis sales dominated, but medical cannabis sales have steadily decreased. In November, medical sales totaled about $6.7 million, marking the lowest point since adult-use cannabis was legalized.
The adult-use market is still dominated by flower, which holds a 49% market share and has generated about $265.5 million in sales since the launch of retail cannabis sales. Vape cartridges are the second most popular product, making up 32% of the market share, with edibles accounting for 12%, concentrates for 5%, and “other” products—such as pills, topicals, and tinctures—making up the remaining 3%.
Despite the price fluctuations and changes in sales trends, the market is continuing to evolve and grow as the state works to refine its cannabis industry. This drop in flower prices, while welcome to consumers, reflects larger shifts in supply and demand, as well as the growing adult-use market.
