The Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) has unveiled its 2024 cannabis policy reform voter guide, aimed at informing voters ahead of the upcoming governors and U.S. Senate elections this November. Karen O’Keefe, MPP’s director of state policies, emphasized the guide’s purpose is to help voters understand where candidates stand on cannabis policy reform, enabling them to make informed decisions at the ballot box.
“With Election Day quickly approaching, voters across the country will soon have an opportunity to cast ballots that will shape prospects for cannabis policy reform for years to come,” O’Keefe stated in a press release.
The guide covers 11 states holding gubernatorial elections and 34 Senate seats on the ballot. It includes candidates’ public statements regarding cannabis and their voting records on cannabis-related legislation. For Senate candidates, the guide features responses to MPP survey questions and, for incumbents, details how they voted on previous cannabis bills.
Recent polling from Gallup indicates that 70% of Americans support broad cannabis legalization, reflecting a significant shift in public opinion. Currently, 24 states and Washington, D.C., have legalized cannabis for adult use. This November, voters in Florida, North Dakota, and South Dakota will have the opportunity to vote on cannabis reform initiatives.
