Headflyer Brewing, located in northeast Minneapolis, has begun serving hemp-derived, THC-infused beverages on tap, according to a report from CBS News. This offering comes following a newly enacted state regulation effective July 1, which allows such products to be dispensed on tap instead of exclusively in cans.
Previously, hemp-derived THC drinks were required to be sold in cans, but under the revised rules, companies can now display necessary product information typically found on labels and offer these beverages on tap.
Dan Schnabel, taproom manager at Headflyer Brewing, expressed enthusiasm about the rule change: “Having THC drinks on tap provides our customers with more options to taste, try, and enjoy while visiting our establishment. It’s a more approachable format because not everyone wants to purchase a full can and consume it in one go.”
While Minnesota has legalized adult-use cannabis, the state’s cannabis industry is not expected to launch until early next year at the earliest. In the interim, the market for low-dose hemp THC, legalized by state lawmakers in 2022, has been steadily expanding.
Recent announcements from Minnesota officials indicate that the state has collected over $10 million in taxes from the hemp-derived THC market since its inception two years ago.
