Large-Scale Pardoning for Non-Violent Cannabis Conviction in PA

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman announced on Thursday a one-time, large-scale pardoning project for people with select minor, non-violent cannabis criminal convictions.

The Pennsylvania Board of Pardons is accepting applications for the PA Marijuana Pardon Project through the end of the month.

Eligible convictions under the program include possession of cannabis and possession of a small amount for personal use.

Governor Wolf said in a statement that “the pardon project is an important step forward in righting the wrongs of the failed War on Drugs.” He added that the project will help to “provide relief and a fresh start to hundreds of Pennsylvanians who have been convicted of crimes related to marijuana.”

Governor Tom Wolf has made a concerted effort to pardon nonviolent cannabis-related offenses since taking office in 2015. Of the 2,098 pardons he has granted, 326 were part of an expedited review for nonviolent cannabis-related offenses. This is a significant increase from the 15 years prior to Wolf’s term, during which only 1,805 pardons were granted in total.

The Pennsylvania Board of Pardons will accept applications for the PA Marijuana Pardon Project from Thursday, September 1, 2022, through Friday, September 30, 2022.
